December 22nd: New release of Oracle SQL Developer
To further enhance developer productivity and simplify Oracle Database development, Oracle has announced the availability of Oracle SQL Developer Release 2.1, the latest free release of their popular database development and migration tool. Release 2.1 introduces PL/SQL Unit Testing and Data Modeler Viewer, in addition to other enhancements. November 9th: Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition 4.0 now available
Oracle today announced a new release of Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition which includes significant new features for high availability, scalability and performance. The new release demonstraties Oracle’s continuing commitment to open source, Java and the developer community. October 12th: Oracle unveils new Oracle PartnerNetwork Specialised Program
Further enabling partners to grow and profit with Oracle, the company has announced Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Specialised. The new program represents the most significant evolution of the Oracle PartnerNetwork in over a decade. Built on the foundation of Oracle Enablement 2.0 training and support, the OPN Specialised program will enable partners to establish industry recognition by following a formal process to become specialised in key Oracle solution areas. September 4th : October Critical Patch Update rescheduled
There is a change in the previously announced release date of the October 2009 Critical Patch Update (CPU). Since many Oracle customers with responsibility for deploying the CPU within their respective organisations will be attending Oracle OpenWorld October 11-15, 2009, the update originally scheduled to be published on Tuesday, October 13th, will be released on October 20th 2009. Other dates on the schedule are not affected.
September 1st: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 now available
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 is available and the Linux version can be downloaded from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) site. This latest generation of the world’s number 1 database builds on the innovations introduced in Oracle Database 11g to help organisations deliver better information throughout the enterprise, at a higher quality of service and at a much lower cost. Server costs can be reduced by up to 5x by consolidating onto the grid. In this release, Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) delivers grid plug and play and new server pooling capabilities that enable organisations to reduce their server costs by streamlining the provisioning and management of consolidated database grids. Oracle RAC One Node, a new Database option, has also been released. This allows customers to consolidate their less mission critical database environments on the grid with most of the redundancy and availability provided by Oracle Real Application Clusters.
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Automatic Storage Management, Oracle Real Application Clusters and Active Data Guard allow storage and server resources to be used for both fault tolerance and running production workloads, keeping servers and storage from sitting idle waiting for failures. July 15th: Critical Patch Update
The Critical Patch Update (CPU) for July 2009 was released on July 14, 2009. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible. The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes a list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities and links to other important documents. Supported Products that are not listed in the "Supported Products and Components Affected" Section of the Advisory do not require new patches to be applied. Oracle and Sun Microsystems announced today that they have entered into a definitive acquisition agreement. Oracle breaks more performance world records, this time with their Java Virtual Machine (JVM), JRockit. Using an industry standard benchmark that measures Java-based server-side performance, Oracle now holds the world record for this performance category on Windows, Linux and using an Intel based 4-socket system.

The latest release of Oracle Application Express (APEX) introduces new Oracle Forms conversion capabilities and enhanced security features. Oracle has announced a new world record TPC-C benchmark for Oracle Database 11g running on Windows. With this result, Oracle now holds the top four record benchmark positions in the Top Ten TPC-C price/performance category. Achieving 104,492 transactions per minute with a price/performance of $.60/tpmC, Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One running on a Windows-based Dell server with one Intel Quad-Core Xeon 2.83 GHz processor, delivered the best price-per-transaction-per-minute ever achieved with the TPC-C benchmark. Oracle continues to lead in the TPC-C Price/Performance category with the top results on Windows and Linux. February 24th: Quest Software announces Oracle Database Schema Provider for Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2010
A new solution from Quest provides Oracle support for VSTS, enabling Oracle developers to fully participate with other VSTS team members throughout the entire application lifecycle. Quest will offer an Oracle Database Schema Provider for the upcoming release of Microsoft Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) 2010. January 21st: Oracle named a leader in worldwide embedded database management systems vendor share by leading market research firm
Leading market research firm IDC states in its latest report, "Worldwide Embedded Database Management Systems 2007 Vendor Shares," that Oracle is the leading vendor with 26.3 percent of worldwide embedded DBMS software revenue. Additionally, IDC notes that Oracle increased its vendor share lead over the previous year with annual growth of 26.0 percent.
